Kriega R30 Rucksack
Make: Kriega (www.kriega.com)
Model: R30 Rucksack
Price: £139
Verdict: 4 out of 5
If like me you don’t have any pockets in your riding gear, then a rucksack is pretty much essential. For my around the world trip, www.teapotone.com, I also needed the extra carry capacity for my kit and Kriega kindly came forward with their backpack range. Normally I’d go for the slightly smaller R25 model, but as I wanted to carry my Macbook Pro, complete with extra external hard drives, spares, documents, hydration system and various other bits and bobs, I went for the daddy R30. There’s now an even bigger R35!
Fitting:
Kriega’s patented ‘Quadloc’ system means that once you set it around your own personal frame, the rucksack will be kept off the shoulders and away from the arms, giving maximum freedom of movement. It’ll fit the vast majority of riders out there, from the Pedrosa’s to the slightly more ‘fuller’ figure such as myself (6ft 3 and hovering around 19 stone!) thanks to 3 shoulder harness settings. It’s just a simple click in and out, I can vouch for the comfort of this backpack as I wore it everyday of my 442 day, 74,000 mile adventure. I even crashed a couple of times whilst wearing it, sliding down the road on my side. The pack maintained its’ integrity, the seams held secure, a mark of the quality of this kit.

Overall:
Like the full Kriega product range, the quality evident in the R30 backpack is fantastic, from the seams and stitching, to the harness and fitting. It’s effortless to wear, 100% waterproof in the main body compartment, has a fully removable and washable lining, external water-resistant pockets, and the ability to add extra add-on US-Drybags for more storage capacity.
The Kriega hydration system can be easily fitted into the backpack with a guide hole pre-cut to allow the drinking tube to be located conveniently on either shoulder strap. I also had the ‘Kubepocket’ fitted onto my R30 backpack allowing me to keep my phone and wallet handy at all times.
Best backpack on the market for large capacity carriage, although for the day to day or shorter tour use, I’d personally go for the R25.
