Dad’s Day Out 2011 – A Huge Success
The Children’s Trusts’ Dad’s Day Out 2011 was held at Dunsfold Park on Saturday 14th May 2011.
The home of BBC’s Top Gear played host to the event for the 3rd year running and is the perfect place to bring the family for a cracking fun packed day out. The TeapotOne team were kindly invited to the event by Katie Roberts and her team at The Children’s Trust. Ruth and Holly made us feel very welcome and gave us a prime position pitch right next to their info cabin and main marquee. Although this was our first event, it didn’t take long to figure out how the gazebo went up and where to put what. soon we were up and running with the bike pride of place out front ready for picture after picture throughout the whole day.
Within minutes of opening we had our first interested parties enquiring about the trip, asking where Bruce was going, why he was doing it, and when he’d be heading off. But by far the most asked question was:
“Why are you taking a sports bike? Are you mental?!"
Those who know Bruce can answer that for themselves, so why not pop along to our next Event and find out for yourself!
There was an array of spectacular supercars present and willing customers could purchase a ticket that would entitle them to a few laps of the top Gear track in one of them.
At lunchtime they all took a break and this was where Bruce stepped up to the plate. Following a quick chat with Craig Phillips from Big Brother, and Pollyanna Woodward from the Gadget Show, Bruce was interviewed by the show compere about the TeapotOne project. After that it was the moment of truth, Bruce was going to take the bike on a few laps of the track in front of a crowd of thousands! Now was not the time for a little off-track excursion.
Luckily enough, Craig Phillips had a few words of wisdom for Bruce before he went out and told him about the gravel and debris on the track following some earlier acrobatics by some supercars. It was a good job too, as when Bruce tilted into the first bend it was apparent that grip in the bends was going to be an issue! Thankfully, lady luck was smiling and the laps went without any mishaps – although the event organisers were left wondering exactly when Bruce was going to come in from playing in the Stigs domain 😉
Well the Stig obviously felt threatened by Bruce’s display of motoring genius as he soon bowled over to the TeapotOne stall. Without saying a word he climbed on the bike, attempted to pop a wheelie, then tried to make off with Bruce’s squeeze, Nikki! Words were said, at least from Bruce.
It was a cracking day with loads to see and do. We’d like to say thank you to everyone at The Children’s Trust for giving us the opportunity to be there. We’d also like to thank each and every person who came up to the stall, spent time talking with us and finding out more about the project, and thank you for all your kind donations.
You all managed to raise £110 for The Children’s Trust on the day – thank you!
P.S Callum, I’m crying right now just for you 😉
