Have a Marathon With Your Brew!
Well it finally arrived and there was no backing out for Nikki & Iain this morning as they got ready to start the 2012 London Marathon at Greenwich Park. Dressed as a Teabag & Teapot, Nikki & Iain were running for The Children's Trust & Born Free respectively, two of TeapotOne.com's Charities.
Starting right at the very back due to their costumes, Nikki & Iain were drawing a lot of attention from the crowds and runners alike, even getting a mention on the loudspeaker system at Greenwich Park!
It was soon time to get going and I saw them move out the park towards the start line at about 10:15hrs, with almost a look of relief on their faces to finally be starting the marathon. (Either relief or despair…….. or wind?)
Well that was the last I saw of them until the finish line, apart from the back of Nikki as she crossed Tower Bridge! Everywhere I went I seemed to be playing catchup, but I know she got great support from friends, family and complete strangers. Thank You very much from us all for all your support, both Nikki & Iain said it made the world of difference to have you shouting their names!
Nikki finished the marathon in 4:45hrs, still dressed as a teabag and looking remarkably fresh – see the pic below.
Iain came in a tad later at about the 6hr mark, but having got caught in some rain, his Teapot costume now weighed about an extra couple of stone! I've no pic of Iain at the finish I'm afraid, got the impression he wasn't too keen for a photoshoot, can't think why?
So that was that then. A massive thank you to both Nikki & Iain for taking on this incredible challenge on behalf of TeapotOne and my selected charities. I know from witnessing the dedication & determination put in by Nikki that this was no easy feat. She really has shown what an amazing strength of character, not to mention stubborn streak, she has. I for one am so proud of both her & Iain for everything they've done, so a huge personal thanks from me.
Until next year peeps ;-))
