Rykas Event June 19th 2011
Sunday 19th June 2011 saw TeapotOne roll up to Rykas cafe in Boxhill, Surrey. On any given Saturday or Sunday throughout the sunny season you'll find find bikers and bikes galore at this mecca of biking in the South of England.
This Sunday was no different especially as the P&H team from Crawley were in town to showcase their stock of Ducati machines. With free demo rides of the ducati fleet on offer, Rykas was heaving all day long and the air thick with the sound of engine and exhaust in harmony.
The TeapotOne team arrived early to set up the stall, all be it minus Bruce and the bike! Bruce had been doing the RBLR1000, a 1000 mile race around the UK to be completed in under 24hrs in aid of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch. He'd had a slight issue with his back tyre that resulted in it blowing out on the A1 just north of Newcastle at about 0030hrs that morning. He was currently being recovered down the UK by a fleet of relayed recovery trucks and would arrive at about 1130hrs. That's 11hrs on 4 separate recovery trucks – see the next blog entry for the RBLR1000 report.
The interest shown in the TeapotOne project at Rykas was great to see with lot's of enquiries into the route and why a sportsbike? Without doubt the African stretch was the topic of the day. Opinions ranged from, "Why the hell are you going through there!" to, "Wow, I really envy you doing that". This has been a recurring theme around the route, and one which I completely understand. But for me, around the world means exactly that and you can't call it an around the world trip without including Africa – can you? Well, I'm not only going through Africa, I'm going all the way down it and then back up the other side.
The TeapotOne stickers were another hit and began to crop up all over the place. These are available for a donation to our charities so why not get yourself some and help us spread the word. Send us your pics to info@teapotone.com and we'll get them on the site!
Thanks to all the staff and management at Rykas for letting us set up the stall and banners, and thanks to all the people who came over, donated, and had a chat. great to meet you all and please feel free to drop by again.
Bruce
